Audition and Repertoire

Putting Yourself Out There

Auditioning is one of the hardest and most nerve racking parts of being an actor. It requires more preparation than people think, and you are rejected more often than you are cast in the roles that you want. Learning how to cater to your strengths, have a full repertoire of options, and how to slate with confidence is crucial to the success of any actor. In addition, learning the psychological resilience to go in believing you are the best person for the job so you perform and speak as such, then bouncing back and leading with gratitude and genuine joy for the others that may get a role you wanted is vital to personal growth both on and off the stage in life. These tools that we teach can be used in many aspects of daily life, but most importantly, they provide a wide array of opportunities to be ready to put your best foot forward with confidence.

Center Stage Theatrical Productions LLC offers a workshop class to help students learn the various aspects of auditioning for immediate artistic use. This part of the process requires a strong understanding and grasp of skills before heading into that audition room, and we are here to help you build that understanding.

WHAT IS AUDITIONING? WHAT IS A REPERTOIRE?

In order to take your acting skills into real practice, you have to audition for a play or a musical in some capacity. When that happens, there are usually a lot of other actors signing up to get in the action also, so you can bet there will be others interested in whatever part you are auditioning for. When you go to an audition, the natural fears of the human experience kick in. You have a social element of awkward judgement that starts to get going in your head, and there are other extremely talented people there that you may or may not already know. In order to stay focused on your goal, you have to be so prepared that you know your audition frontwards and back.

When you go in, it helps to feel like you are ready. You have to know how you will be saying each word, what note you will be focused on when you sing, and what the personality of the character you are going for is. You need to know the relationships of the characters, the way in which they speak, and the best way to show the director or casting team that you are the best person for the job. You can bet the director knows the script and the characters, so knowing that information when you walk in is a huge part of potential success in the audition process.

Your repertoire is your binder of monologues, musical selections, music cuts, resumes and headshots, all designed and ready for any audition that comes up. Sometimes you need a ballad and a classical monologue, and sometimes you need something modern and comedic, with a 32 bar cut of an up-tempo song from the pre-1940s. Whatever it is, you'll be ready.

Our audition and repertoire building courses are designed to help each student build their individual content library, and develop articulation skills necessary for cold reads, slates, and quick answers to common questions that come up in the audition process.

Share Your Art

Knowing yourself is one the most important things you can do in life. In order to portray characters with depth, finding your areas of strength is a confidence builder in and of itself, and gives you the opportunity to share your uniqueness with the world. You can be proud of your talents and what you bring to the table, and excited when the next role comes up that you are wanting to play, so the audition becomes less scary and more fun!

The More the Merrier

Many seasoned actors have multiple repertoires, with different resumes and headshots ready to go based on the show they are auditioning for. Once you learn how to build your own, and have the fundamentals of the audition experience down, you never have to worry about walking into the unknown again!

Come Get Your Life Book

As an actor, you already have traits that make you a unique person. Finding ways to build on that is helpful for relationships all throughout your life. Building audition skills prepares you for school project presentations, job interviews, annual evaluations with the boss, and opportunities to step up in a group work setting. There are no limits to how much you can learn about YOU, and the best ways to present yourself in any situation or scenario.
