Theater 101

Beginning Stage Craft for All Skill Levels

Do you envy people who are confident in any setting and can participate in anything? Learning to embolden yourself and speak with confidence  is not necessarily a far-reaching goal like it may seem to some. By introducing yourself to new concepts, practicing proven techniques, and learning from the best, you, too, can learn the fundamentals of Stage Craft.
Center Stage Theatrical Productions offers our Theater 101 course to help you learn and practice some of the fundamentals of physical artistic expression. Students will learn to exercise and use both parts of the brain, while learning to engage both in realistic and abstract forms of performance.

ANY PERSON IS CAPABLE OF BECOMING AN ARTIST.

THEATER CAN TEACH YOU SOME OF THE ESSENTIALS.

Though it may take some convincing, any person is capable of being an artist. Performing, like all art, is far more than walking across a stage and saying a few lines to fill space in a play. Rather, performance art is extremely personal and emotional, no one else can imitate your feeling and perspective.

It may be said that drama is the result of learned skills, passion, and creativity. Everyone has passion waiting to be discovered, creativity can be exercised, and skills can be learned. Our course provides an opportunity for students to discover all three.

You will learn and regularly practice techniques such as physical focus, group tableau development, and imaginative object substitution, all while having FUN! You'll also receive opportunities to infuse your own forms of passion and self-expression, making your individual talents thrive through beautiful and unique opportunities.

What You'll Need

Students will need some basic yet essential supplies to successfully participate in our basic theater instruction and participation. The materials necessary vary based upon the class material as dictated by your professor each week. For the duration of the acting and physical movement sessions, students will need to purchase and bring pencils and paper, a "rehearsal" bag, lots of water, and always wear comfortable clothes and closed toed shoes.

What to Expect

Future sessions may require binders, folders, and random props collected at home depending on what is requested.

In time, you'll begin to explore a variety of new forms and techniques, while utilizing different tools to create a plethora of new skills. By the end of our course, we'll have introduced you to an ample amount of performance experiences.

The Benefits of Stage Craft

Practicing speaking and performing in front of others, as well as any art form, massages the side of your brain that's primarily responsible for imagination and creativity. While this in time will make you a better performing artist, that creativity is also useful in many areas of life. Additionally, artists tend to have a better time expressing emotion and communicating than those without any sort of creative outlet. Confidence, empathy, team work and the lack of screens are all great benefits to participating in the performing arts!
